AWARDS OF THE DISTINGUISH FLYING CROSS To   THERON E. SMITH, SECOND LIEUTENANT   21 APRIL 1945 TO 4 JUNE 1945   Pursuant to the authority contained in Army Regulations 600-45, War Department, Washington, D.C., 22 September 1943, the Distinguished Flying Cross in hereby awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men of the First Combat Cargo Group for extraordinary achievement while participating in more than one hundred hours of aerial flight over territory in Burma and China where exposure to enemy fire was probable and expected.  Flying unarmed transport aircraft through instrument weather, over hazardous terrain, these pilots and crew members brought supplies, equipment, and reinforcements to the forward areas.  Their devotion to duty and degree of efficiency, reflect great credit on themselves and the Army Air Forces of the United States
